Canada-Alberta Productivity Grant

Employee training for a quarter of the cost

The federal and provincial governments will pay 75% of the cost of job-related training for your staff. The program is the Canada-Alberta Productivity Grant (CAPG). I’m Dave Sabine, and I can help you use it.

Does this sound like your company?

  • Construction and trades
You run a construction or trades company. Your crews are good, but every job juggles a dozen subcontractors, change orders, and a schedule that slips one day at a time. Your project managers live in spreadsheets after hours. They’re trying to use AI but get AI slop. You need everyone working from one visible plan and to automate repetitive tasks.
  • Manufacturing and energy services
You run a manufacturing or energy-services company. Orders pile up in front of the same bottleneck every week, and delays have become normal. The supervisors you employ are promoted operators who were never taught how to manage flow. You need a simple way to see where work gets stuck, and to fix it without adding headcount.
  • Professional services
You run a professional-services firm (engineering, accounting, or legal). Your senior people are booked solid, files wait in someone’s inbox, and clients keep asking, “When will it be done?” You’ve heard AI could help, but nobody has time to figure out how. You need faster turnaround and a practical first step with AI that your team will actually use.
  • Not-for-profit
Your organization is run by a few administators and many volunteers. Your multiple initiatives, upcoming events, and fundraising activities are overwhelming. Admins are losing track and multi-tasking is causing burnout. The status quo is not sustainable and the team needs to adapt with new ways of working and tighter business processes.
CAPG

About the CAPG program

CAPG is funded by the federal and provincial government to support training for your current staff and for people you plan to hire. You pay 25%. The government pays the other 75%, up to $5,000 per trainee per fiscal year (April 1 to March 31) and up to $100,000 per employer per fiscal year. Business owners and employed family members qualify too.

Hiring someone who is unemployed? If you’ve made them a job offer, you can send them to training even before they start the job. They’re covered at the same 75%, up to $5,000.

Training has to be instructor-led and job-relevant, in business operations, digital, or technical skills.

AI for business, Operations management, and Agile project management are all eligible topics for training.
